We Are Dads
I know a good number of dads
who try to do what's right for their children:
playing outside;
taking them to dance,
shopping,
and McDonalds;
teaching them life skills;
Eating peanuts together in the backyard
and throwing the shells on the ground;
going to those sooo looonnngg school activities
and generally staying awake;
Complimenting on their accomplishments,
and suggesting when they wrong,
just being around.
Many of us fathers are there every day,
many of us are there when we can.
But being a father is always a full-time job.
We fathers who try hard as we can
are part of the unrecognized majority.
Uncounted,
sometimes forgotten,
sometimes taken for granted.
But in the end we win,
we get to watch our children grow.
